Frugal Lawn Guy Is Now a Lawn Life Affiliate — Here’s What That Does and Doesn’t Change

If you read the seeding and plugging guide, you’ve already run into Jesse from Lawn Life without knowing it. His teardown of a coated Pennington Smart Seed bag, the one showing you’re mostly buying mulch, is the source I cite for that whole coated-seed math. I’ve been pointing readers at his content for a while now because it’s genuinely good and he shows his work.
As of this month, that’s a disclosed relationship, not just a citation. Lawn Life approved me as an affiliate, which means if you buy their seed or fertilizer through a link on this site, I get a commission, at no extra cost to you.
What’s actually new
Three products from their catalog are now part of the fall overseed content on this site: their NIGHTSHIFT raw seed line, their 12-24-8 starter fertilizer for new seed and plugs, and their small-prill ammonium sulfate for anyone dealing with high-pH soil. The cool-season fall overseed program walks through where each one fits and where it doesn’t.
That last part matters. I also carry their EvenFlow surfactant now, and I’ve said plainly in that article that it’s not the best value for that job. At about $5.62 per 1,000 sq ft per application, it costs several times what a standalone soil surfactant does. EvenFlow gets a mention because it’s convenient if you’re already ordering seed from Lawn Life, not because it’s the winner.
What doesn’t change
This site stays affiliate-only. I don’t sell my own products, and I’m not on anyone’s payroll. The commission on a Lawn Life sale doesn’t change the fact that generic urea beats their ammonium sulfate on straight cost per pound of nitrogen, and I’ll keep saying so, because it’s true and because that’s the whole reason anyone trusts a recommendation on this site in the first place.
If a product’s the honest pick, it gets recommended, disclosed link or not. If it’s not, it doesn’t, disclosed link or not. Lawn Life’s seed and starter fertilizer earned a spot on their own merits before there was ever a commission attached. The AMS and EvenFlow picks are narrower, useful for a specific problem, not a universal upgrade, and I’ve tried to say exactly that instead of dressing them up.
