Fall is the season where the chemistry deals actually line up with what you should be buying. DoMyOwn’s fall pre-emergent sale is still running, and the two products cool-season overseeders need most, mesotrione and a good broadleaf killer, are both cheaper than they were in August. Worth knowing: the generic 75 DF powder is out of stock everywhere right now, so today the brand is the cheapest quinclorac you can buy.
- Prodiamine 65 WDG (5 lb) — 🔥 $79.98 (reg $88.87) — Buy it. 10% off, fourth check in a row. Warm-season lawns are putting fall pre-emergent down right now; cool-season lawns that are not overseeding should be too. It keeps for years, so buying the workhorse while it is discounted is the frugal play either way.
- Dimension 2EW (dithiopyr) — 🔥 $139.50 the half gallon (reg $155.00) — Buy it at DoMyOwn. 10% off in the same fall sale. Dithiopyr is the “I ran a little late” preventer. It still catches crabgrass just after it sprouts, where prodiamine will not. If you are on time, buy the prodiamine instead; it covers more lawn per dollar. Amazon carries the same jug, and Amazon moves prices daily, so check both before you buy.
- Prime Source Meso 4SC Select (mesotrione) — 🔥 $46.67 for 8 oz (reg $51.85) — Buy it. 10% off, and this is the one product on the page that is timed perfectly. It is the generic Tenacity, the only pre-emergent you can put down the same day you seed. If you are overseeding fescue this month, this is the bottle. The overseeding guide covers how to use it.
- Rachio 3 smart controller, 8 zone — 🔥 $159.00 (list $199.00) — Buy it. 20% off and the best price I have seen on it since spring. If you are still running a dumb timer, this is the one controller that pays for itself in a season on a big lawn. The controller guide explains why.
- Greenworks 24V 270 CFM handheld blower kit — 🔥 $89.99 (list $149.99) — Buy it. 40% off with battery and charger included, cheaper than it was in August. Not the tool I run, but a real price on a lighter, cheaper option if the EGO blowers are more machine than your yard needs, and leaf season is three weeks out.
- 48″ double-sided leveling rake — 🔥 $49.99 (list $65.99) — Buy it. 24% off on the wide rake from the leveling guide. Fall is the wrong time to level warm-season turf, so this is a buy-it-and-wait-for-May deal, but at fifty dollars it is the cheapest I have seen a 48-inch plate.
Came off the list this check: Gunner 14.3 propiconazole is back to full price at $98.49, and both EGO listings (the trimmer-and-blower combo and the 21″ mower) snapped back to $329 and $499 with nothing on sale. Bifen I/T, Celsius, T-Nex, Sertay and the atrazines are all sitting at flat regular price. Also worth knowing if you are buying nitrogen: the Anderson’s HCU urea is out of stock at DoMyOwn as of this check, so the urea link on this site points at a 50 lb Amazon bag at the same cost per pound of nitrogen until it comes back.
The gear I watch (Amazon and VEVOR)
Equipment deals bounce around more than chemistry. These are the pieces I would actually buy on a real dip:
- VEVOR battery backpack sprayer. The upgrade that makes you actually spray on time, and the sprayer I run on my own lawn. $88.90 at VEVOR as of September 7, and VEVOR runs its own sales that are worth catching. The reader code is retired; if they hand me another one it will show up here first.
- Echo RB-60 broadcast spreader. The one spreader I trust for even coverage without dumping product in stripes. $149 at Home Depot; watch for price dips before you buy.
- A cheap soil thermometer. $12.99, and it tells you exactly when to put down pre-emergent. The best few dollars in your shed.
How I think about deals
A sale is only a deal if you were going to buy the thing anyway. Chemistry keeps for years, so stocking up on a genuine discount makes sense. Equipment is worth waiting for a real dip.
